Max Verstappen regained his form in Suzuka, winning the Japanese Grand Prix for the third time in the 2024 Formula One season. Now, the drivers are in Shanghai for the first edition of the Chinese Grand Prix in five years.
The event kicks off with a free practice session on April 19 at 11:30 a.m. local time (CST). Unlike most races, there is only one practice session instead of three. Following this, there will be a 19-lap sprint before the qualifying and main race.
The sprint challenge will take place on the morning of Saturday, April 20, before the qualifying session in the afternoon. The ‘sprint shootout’ to determine grid positions for the 19-lap event will be held after the free practice session on Friday, April 19.
Qualifying occurs on Saturday, April 20, setting the grid for the main race on Sunday, April 21 at 3:00 p.m. local time (CST) at the Shanghai International Circuit.
Verstappen had a tough start to the season with a brake issue in Australia but bounced back in Japan with a dominant win over his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez.
The last Chinese Grand Prix was in 2019 when Verstappen finished fourth. Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas took the top two spots with Sebastian Vettel in third.
